0003724: problem compiling with bleeding edge versions of everything

Description

using the Arch64 distribution with the following versions:

gcc 4.3.1
binutils 2.18
kernel-headers 2.6.25.6
glibc 2.8

Trying to compiling busybox 1.10..3, getting the following error mesg:
