Summary 0000154: Possible problem with ARP implementation
Description arp table on cyclades terminal servers incorrect and doesn't match other vendors. Causes loss of default gateway.
Additional Information Our current network implementation has the following layout:

.1 virtual router (HSRP)
.2 real router even (HSRP)
.3 real router odd (HSRP)
.4 backup router even (HSRP)
.5 backup router odd (HSRP)
.6 firewall outside address
.10-.20 various terminal servers
All of these directly connected to a Cisco 5500 switch.

Everything on this class-C network should utilize .1 for default gateway.

Using cyclades terminal server, arp table randomly, but often, seems to have bad ARP entries. Ticket is open with Cisco (switch + firewall), but cisco hasn't seen any other issues AND the only terminal servers that have issues are cyclades. Ticket is also open with cyclades, but they too haven't heard of anyone else with issues, but also suspect busybox as culprit.

For these terminal servers (cyclades), they actually get the outside MAC address of the firewall mapped to the default gateway IP instead of the .1 MAC address. the .2/.3 MACs are mapped correctly.

Suspect that busybox doesn't just listen to first ARP response (which should be from CISCO HSRP router).

Reminder sent to: tommako

Have you identified a pattern for this bug. Have you found a workaround for this issue.

How does busybox come into play with this?

The arp table is supposedly maintained by the kernel, no?

Please describe what *exact* busybox commands are involved to reproduce this issue.

thanks,

This sounds like a duplicate of bug 154 and 356 or vice versa.

The Linux kernel does ARP. All busybox has is an arp ping command. Is that what you're referring to? If so, a reproduction sequence would be nice...

This sounded like a kernel problem and nothing to do with busybox, then the submitter vanished.
